Robert J. Black, CGR, CAPS, Access of Sarasota, Inc.

Robert Black is president of Access of Sarasota, Inc., a Design/Build Contracting firm specializing in Universal Design and Energy Efficiency. Access of Sarasota, Inc. also provides consulting and training services. Mr. Black was named Florida Remodelor ® of the Year 2001 by the Florida Homebuilders Association. He is a Certified Graduate Remodelor ® (CGR) and a certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) trainer.

Robert is the past Chairman of the Florida Home Builders Association Remodelors Council. He has also served three terms as president the Sarasota County Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors Association, an advisory board member for Florida House and as a National Energy Raters Association Director. He holds the following licenses: Florida State Certified General Contractor, Roofing Contractor, Plumbing Contractor, Mechanical Contractor, Underground Utilities Contractor, Class I Energy Rater and Project Impact RCMP Inspector.

Mr. Black has taught at the Florida House Learning Center, the International Builders Show, the National Council on Senior Housing, the National Association of Homebuilders and the Governors Alliance on Employing the Disabled. He has worked as a consultant with the National Association of Home Builders Research Center, AARP and the US Administration on Aging, developing a training program and professional designation for the Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS). He has worked with the National Association of Home Builders Research Center, EPA, and the US Department of Energy developing guidelines and a training program on energy efficient remodeling. Robert has 40 years experience in the construction industry and has worked with the NAHB University of Housing updating the CAPS program.
